Annie’s occupies one of Leiden’s most recognisable hospitality locations, on Hoogstraat exactly where the Old and New Rhine meet. During the warmer season, the large floating terrace is the main attraction. Indoors, guests sit in historic vaults beneath the bridge. This makes Annie’s more than a restaurant: it is a distinctive stop during a day in the city centre.

Is Annie’s worth visiting?

Yes, particularly when you want a central waterside setting and value the location as much as the meal. Views of boats and historic façades feel unmistakably Leiden. The menu covers many occasions, although this is better understood as accessible grand-café dining than as a highly specialised culinary destination. The vaults retain character in poor weather, but the venue naturally loses much of its key advantage when the terrace is unavailable.

Food and drinks

The official menu covers cakes, soups, salads, filled lunch dishes, toasties, burgers, fish, meat, vegetarian dishes and desserts. Lunch is served until 15:30 and dinner from 17:30. Drinks range from coffee, tea and smoothies to beer, wine, cocktails and bar snacks. The broad format works for coffee, lunch, dinner, long drinks or meeting friends.

Prices

When checked on 6 August 2026, coffee started at €3.40, apple pie cost €5.50 and a substantial toasted sandwich €8.50. Soups were around €9.50–€10.75, salads €14.75–€15.50 and lunch burgers €16.50–€17.50. Dinner mains ranged from €16.75 to €25.50; children’s dishes began at €5 for lunch and €10.50 for dinner. Prices are therefore mid-range to above average, with the waterside location accounting for a meaningful part of the value.

Floating terrace and crowds

The floating terrace cannot be reserved. It can fill quickly on sunny afternoons, Friday evenings and summer weekends. Arrive early for the best chance of a waterside table. Visitors prioritising a quieter meal should choose a weekday lunch or early afternoon rather than sunset on a warm day.

Reservations and groups

Annie’s does not accept terrace reservations. Parties larger than eight should contact the venue by phone or email. The website does not publish a clear standalone online booking process for smaller groups. Contact the restaurant in advance when an exact time or an indoor table is essential.

Vegetarian food, allergens and coeliac visitors

Several vegetarian dishes are available. Annie’s refers guests to staff for allergen information. No firm online guarantee covers gluten-free preparation or the prevention of cross-contamination. Visitors with coeliac disease or a serious allergy should call ahead and discuss the chosen preparation again on arrival.

Getting there and nearby sights

Allow roughly fourteen minutes to walk from Leiden Central. De Burcht, Hooglandse Kerk, De Waag and the shopping streets are close by. Drivers are better off using a central car park than looking for parking near Hoogstraat. Combine Annie’s with a walk through De Burcht and along the Nieuwe Rijn.
