Why visit?

Aan de Rijn closed permanently after 30 December 2025. Café Lola opened at the same address in spring 2026 under three new operators. This is more than a name change: the interior, menu and positioning were rebuilt. The location remained the same and is still the strongest asset, with a terrace boat directly on the Nieuwe Rijn.

Lola works best for coffee, lunch and a long afternoon drink that can continue into dinner. Cake is available from 11:00, lunch from 12:00 to 15:30 and bar bites from 14:30. Dinner runs from 17:00 to 21:00. The menu is shorter than at a typical grand café and focuses on familiar dishes presented with more care: burrata, eel on toast, entrecôte, salmon, pointed cabbage and a double smashburger.

For a date, Lola is strongest when atmosphere and waterside views matter more than a long culinary programme. Sunny weather is also the drawback: the Nieuwe Rijn becomes lively, tables are sought after and noise levels rise.
